The Summer of Magic!
I’m writing this today from a 20 hour journey back from the beautiful island of Maui. I’ve always been asked where is my favourite place to perform and Hawaii would be on the top of the list. This was my first time visiting Maui and it was spectacular. Swimming with sea turtles in the ocean, exploring the black sand beaches along the Road to Hana and watching the sunrise at the Haleakala Summit over the clouds was pure magic.
The summer tour kicked off in Scottsdale which was fire…literally! I performed at the Grand Hyatt for a special corporate event. Of course, a trip to Arizona wouldn’t be complete without a hike through the mountains and desert. You really don’t know what hot is like until you visit Arizona in the summer.
From there, I travelled to Bend Oregon for a 1 night show at the beautiful Sunriver Resort. Along the route, I experienced one of the coolest lava caves. Walking in a cave deep down into the earth with absolutely no light (except a flashlight). Definitely made me a bit nervous but such a thrill going into pure darkness and not being able to see your hand in front of your face.
That’s Poisonous!
I always love to explore what each place has to offer. It’s what keeps me sane from the chaos of airports and constant travel for shows. I was in Mexico the first week of July. Out of nowhere, my hand started to feel like it was burning. About 10 minutes later, I started to feel the same burning sensation on my back. Turns out a caterpillar landed on my shirt. I showed the lifeguard the bug to which he told me, “That’s Poisonous”! Not exactly what you want to hear after my back instantly started swelling up. Luckily, it cleared but so much can happen when you’re not expecting it.
Tour Life
Had some great local shows performing at the Markham Canada Day Festival, the Zehrs 75th Diamond Gala, Camp Winnebago and Fern Resort which was a blast. I also performed at an airport hanger for Cargojet. This was their inaugural plane pull where teams had to pull a 747 plane!
This past weekend I travelled to Lac La Biche which is in Northern Alberta. There is something so charming when I get to visit more rural towns. It was about a 2.5 hour drive from Edmonton and it was nice passing through the Elk Island National Park. There is so much natural beauty in Canada. Along the way, I saw wildlife including cows, horses, bison, deer and birds. The beauty of showbiz is that it brings me to places that I would probably otherwise never get a chance to visit.

True Story
I’ll leave you with one final story. When I was interning at Sony Pictures during my university days, I had the chance to meet and work with some of Hollywood’s top A-List celebrities. Robin Williams was one actor that really left a lasting impression years later. I remember hanging out in a hotel room with Robin and a couple of other colleagues. He was so funny and cracking jokes non-stop (off camera). I remember being awestruck chilling in the same room as one of my favourite childhood actors. At the end of the day, we were outside across the street from each other. His driver came to pick him up but before he got into the car, he crossed the street and came to shake my hand and say Thank You! Such a simple gesture literally changed my life and way of thinking. He was truly one of the greats both on and off camera.
The moral of the story, a small act of kindness can go a long way and change your world. That’s the true magic in life!
