The good and bad of it all!
There are some events that I will never forget. I remember performing at one of the most beautiful weddings in a forest. The couple literally had a spot in a remote forest with nothing in sight and had a tent set up under the trees. They brought in designers from around the world to light up the woods and create a mystical enchanted forest which was absolutely spectacular. I have never seen such amazing decor and creativity in an event design. The only problem… It was lightning and pouring rain! Not exactly where you want to be during a storm especially because all of the guests were wearing white. With no back up plan, the party went on and let’s just say it was one of the most fun shows!
Planes, Trains and Automobiles!
I recently returned from performing in Arizona on the Union Pacific Railroad. This was my first time performing on a moving train. It was an exclusive railroad ride for only 35 CEO’s from across the country as part of a client appreciation event. This was not a passenger train but rather a historic train that has hosted former presidents and celebrities. Such a cool experience performing in this unique setting as we rode into the desert.
Magic in Doha!
I remember years back having the opportunity to perform in Doha Qatar. It was part of a larger production for Alice in Wonderland but I had the chance to perform my magic during the show. What I remember the most was the intenstiy of the heat as we performed on an outdoor stage. I was in a costume dressed as a cat which was totally not my style but I’m always up for a challenge. The hardest part about these shows was the fact that the guests were silent throughout the performance. No laughing, clapping or cheering. As a performer, we thrive from the audience interaction but this was definitely a step outside of my comfort zone. The people were amazing but they had a different way of showing appreciation than North American audiences. After the show, we would have a meet & greet where many of the guests mentioned that they have never seen magic before. Seeing this live on stage was bewildering to them that they didn’t know how to react.
Working my Leafs Nations Magic
Hats off to the Toronto Maple Leafs for a great season even though they lost to the Florida Panthers. I had the chance to perform for the team last year and had a blast. I think that my biggest fan of the night was Max Domi who truly LOVED watching magic. Also had a good laugh performing for Morgan Rielly and Devo Brown from City TV. I’m not sure who had a better time looking at this picture…LOL.
Mega Magic on OMNI TV
My crew and I had a busy month performing in Niagara Falls and the Markham Theatre. Huge thanks to OMNI TV for covering our show at the Flato Markham Theatre on the Italian News. OMNI covered one of our theatre shows about 10 years so it was nice to have them back at the show. Check out the clip below…
Sometimes you just have to laugh!
In show business, there are somethings that are outside of our control. On stage, we do our best to have back ups and “outs” in the event that something goes wrong. However, sometimes it just doesn’t work out. In my early days of performing kids shows, I used a trick where I would mash up a banana on stage and then it would disappear in a cloth. Of course, having performed the effect countless times, I was on auto-pilot and during the crucial move, instead of making the banana vanish into thin air, it went FLYING into the audience and almost landed on someone. As terrifying as it was to mess up a trick, to my surprise the audience was loving it. They were laughing so hard that it was probably the best part of the show. Sometimes you just have to roll with it!
Magic in the real world!
In the past, I gave a talk about how magic can be used in everyday life to misdirect people. I’m excited to be bringing this presenation to the CIBC Corporate Security Conference. This will comprise of a live and virtual audience who will be able to participate in the show. As magicians, we always have to stay one step ahead of current technologies. After performing hundreds of virtual shows during Covid, I learned that watching and participating in a magic show can be even more amazing when it’s through a screen.

Sometimes, we just have to slow things down and enjoy the moment. I spoke with an old friend & radio host recently about how I find inspiration, deal with adversity & overcome anxiety. Take a look at this short clip from our talk…
